Project Runway, No Excitement

December 6, 2007 · 1 Comment

I was thinking of live blogging last night’s episode but I’m glad I didn’t; boring!

My expectations of seeing another star on the show were dashed when I saw regular ole Nina standing in the room when the designers marched in to meet their challenge. I thought, “What the hell? Nina? What? Is the show running out of money already, they can’t get anyone else?”

Then there was the challenge, which I didn’t understand at all. Old fashion fads? Again, boring. I guess the only thing that made the show the least bit interesting was when they had to divide up in teams. It was entertaining to watch who picked who to be on their team.

Team Jillian won the challenge, and rightfully so. I thought for sure that Ricky was leaving but I was wrong! One of my main favorites is gone. Last week my other favorite was shown the door; Carmen. So it’s a good thing I’m not making a living as a psychic! I don’t know who I like anymore, except to say I know it’s not Christian.

Anyway, that’s my take on the episode. Let’s hope some others pop up some time today to tell us what they thought.

Week 3 Winners and Losers

November 29, 2007 · 1 Comment

Carmen’s shirtless mess:

Project Runway - Carmen's menswear design
EEK. Disaster. It’s too bad, because with an actual shirt and if the pants fit better, it would be good. But hey, construction counts! (See also: Sweet Pea and Ricky–also with failures in construction.)

Jack’s winning design:

Project Runway - Jack's winning menswear design

Jack’s definitely wasn’t my favorite, although it was certainly one of the best. My favorite? Actually, none of the top three. I’d say either Chris March’s, Jillian’s, or Rami’s, although my taste in what men in real life wear is much more conservative than anything you’d see on Project Runway. I’m not really into men dressing all flashy.

Chris March–again a surprise, considering he’s a rather flamboyant costume designer!

Jillian Lewis. She’s really under the radar, and she’s not gonna win. She’s good, but she’s not outstanding, not knock-em-dead–at least not yet. But as far as menswear goes, I don’t want to see something that’s particularly arresting.

Project Runway - Jillian Lewis' menswear design

Definitely the most conservative look–Rami’s, which surprised me. I frankly didn’t know what to expect from him, considering his usual style. If I had to buy any of these for a man, I’d buy this one. I guess it’s too “boring” for Project Runway and Tiki Barber, though.

Project Runway - Rami Kashou's menswear design

To see and rate all of the designs, go here. Which were your favorites? Which was your least favorite? And what were Tiki and the judges thinking by giving Christian’s hideous design a pass?!

Project Runway Week 3!

November 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Confession: I’m being a bad citizen tonight, watching the replays of Project Runway instead of the YouTube Republican debate. One might say it’s elitist to have disdain for a YouTube “debate,” but hey, I’m here blogging Project Runway. How elitist can I really be?
:-P

I’ll continue this post later when this week’s show comes on later. I’m just starting this so I have no excuse for possible laziness later. Heeee.

OK, it’s later. Live bloggin’ it!

God, I hope Elisa or Christian get “aufed” this week. Hate them. Hate. Hate their crappy ridiculous designs, hate them. Ick.

I am not loving this week with the mens’ designs and the scary drooling over the male models. Seriously, you don’t see the female designers acting stupid about it, so what the hell with the gay guys? Act like you’ve done this shit before, wouldja? And Elisa? “Shy?” Shut up, please. Gawd.

Er…why should anyone care about Tiki Barber’s wife? Seriously?

Well, this should be interesting anyway. Some of these people are going to fail miserably with mens wear. Like, a lingerie designer? LOL!

Oh dear. Carmen. Sweet P. Awful. Victorya, what is that collar? Ick, Elisa. The women did horribly, except for Kit.

Here we go–they’re ripping on Sweet P. They like Kit and Jack, and I agree. As I expected, the lingerie designer cannot design menswear. Oooh, Tiki’s busting his chops! Tiki liked Kevin’s design, but Heidi didn’t. Oh, Carmen…so awful. I hope it’s not her who gets the boot. (Crosses fingers for it to be Ricky, but we’ll have to see him cry again!)

Heh, I knew it–Jack’s design won. Good.

DAMN. Carmen’s out. DAMN. Well, she has the right attitude–she’s out on menswear and not on stuff she normally does. I hope next week they weed out one of the lame ones (Christian, Elisa, Ricky).

Pictures will go up later!

How It Really Turned Out…

November 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

cablecomfortthrow.jpg

I was doing a little fashion surfing earlier this afternoon when I came across the winning design of the second episode of Project Runway.

It really isn’t bad now that some real people got a hold of it and made it presentable to the rest of us.

Found it at BlueFly.com – even though they have dorky commercials.

Don’t forget to tune in, tomorrow night 9:00 PM central time, for another episode of Project Runway! Can anyone guess what their next challenge will be?

Project Runway – Season 4, Episode 2

November 22, 2007 · 1 Comment

sarahjessicaparker.jpgLast night Sarah Jessica Parker showed up as the pop culture fashion icon and sit in celebrity judge for the second episode of Project Runway. Now, I love Sarah Jessica Parker, I think she’s a swell actress and I absolutely am a Sex in the City freak but that’s where SJP needs to stay – in acting and out of the fashion industry.

I remember being all excited when her clothing line, Bitten, came out. I went straight to the mall, to Steve & Barry’s, to check it out and I was sadly disappointed. I found nothing that I would wear; maybe, perhaps for me preteen daughter but nothing that I liked. I will give her credit, though, with trying and attempting to make clothes affordable for the everyday woman.

So last night I was a little apprehensive but held out hope that the designers would create something nice with their $15.00 budget. WRONG! I didn’t like any of the designs – none, nada, zip, zilch! They were ALL atrocious. Sarah Jessica Parker seemed to be genuinely frightened when some of the judges spoke, deservedly, harshly to the designers and their nightmare creations.

When SJP started out with her first pick of Elisa I knew this wasn’t going to be pretty. And I thought for sure that damned young punk ass Christian was going to be voted out but I reckon they need to keep on the token gay eccentric designer for drama purposes or whatever.

Nonetheless I was pleased to see Sarah Jessica Parker on the show. Overall I enjoyed last night’s episode even though I liked none of the finished creations. Not one of the designers from last night’s episode really stood out with me although I’m still keeping my eye on Carmen, Chris, Kit, and now maybe Sweet Pea.

Well, that’s it for now. Did you watch the show? What is YOUR opinion?

Yay, Project Runway is back!

November 15, 2007 · 1 Comment

Ok, so here’s my introduction since c.a. started it.

I’m Beth, and my main blog is here. (If you hate politics, don’t bother–but don’t worry, no politics here!) I’m a huge Project Runway fan, but I’m not obsessed like some who follow it year-round. Don’t worry, I’m not clueless about it, though!

So here’s how non-obsessed I am–I only found out the season was starting last night because of the junk mail I get from Bluefly. I know, shameful. Whatever.

I was thinking my favorites were Carmen, Rami, and Kevin, but as I compiled the list of designers’ links (in the sidebar), I got a better feel for their styles. (Here are last night’s, in case you missed it or want a second look.) I still like Carmen, maybe even more now. I mean, look at this coat! (Sorry, I’m a coat freak–alas, I live on the Gulf Coast and rarely get to wear them!)

Carmen Webber for Sistahs of Harlem - Dorothy Ashby coat (Click to enlarge all thumbnails, or click here for the actual page.)

That’s just one of her things I like, of course. I wasn’t crazy about her design last night, though–I just liked her and had a feeling she had some talent.

Kevin Christiana: Oh, Kevin, please update your regular website. Your MySpace is killing my browser with all those Flash gadgets in it. But what can I say, it’s worth restarting Firefox to see it. I know he said last night that he had done a jeans collection before but wanted to branch out some, but I am also a jeans freak. I like what I’ve seen! Kevin seems like a cool guy, although he looks just like Sully Erna from Godsmack to me–and I can’t stand Godsmack. But that’s irrelevant. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s going to do in future episodes, because I admit I wasn’t blown away by his design last night either. I do not like short flared skirts, and the pinstripes on it were strange. I think it would have looked gorgeous (despite the flare) if it had just not had those pinstripes. I’m kind of picky about skirts, though, so YMMV.

Paris Hilton in Rami KashouRami Kashou: My God, that dress last night was beautiful. It really was the best of the two (yes, only two!) that I liked a lot last night, and he deserved that win. That said, I looked at his other designs at his website. First, I can’t imagine why he needs Project Runway except for some mainstream publicity. I mean, he’s already got quite a following in Hollywood, but I guess he wants to get the Ms. Joe Schmo market too. OK. Honestly, I love the draping, but I can’t stand ruffles and (skirts again!) balloon skirts. Dude likes ruffles…a lot. I get the feeling my initial favorite is not going to be my favorite for long. Oh well. Here’s an example of where he did them well, though–on no less than Paris Hilton. Yeah, he made her look good here.

I may end up with a new favorite after looking through the designers’ websites, though (oddly enough, a couple of them have no web presence of note). Who is it? Steven Rosengard. OMG, I loooooove his designs. That’s my kind of style. Oh, hell, he is my favorite now. Last night? Fuggedaboudit. I am drooling all over his gallery. :sigh:

Gay Fred Flintstone Chris March had the other dress I really liked last night, by the way. I was quite pleasantly surprised–I expected something totally over the top, considering he’s a “costume designer” (is that what you call a designer for transvestites?). That dress last night was just spectacular, and I’m usually not a fan of flashy gold on things. I just hope he doesn’t go for the costumey look in other episodes (please!), because I like him on the show.

I don’t suppose I need to re-hash last night’s fugly stuff, do I? I think we all know what sucked. I don’t care if Elisa had a one-seam dress, either–that thing was a mess, and the scrunched boots just made it worse. If I were giving the “auf wiedersehn” last night, she’d have gotten it. Not that Simone’s mess impressed me either, to say the least. It just didn’t make me go, “WHAT THE HELL?!?” like Elisa’s did. So we’ll see what Elisa does next time, and if she’s learned to “listen to her instincts.”

So, what did you think?

Hey There!

November 15, 2007 · 4 Comments

I’m just doing the obligatory introduction. My name is c.a. Marks and am the blog author of Sex and the South. I’ve been invited to contribute to this We Love Project Runway blog, for which I am ever grateful and very excited to participate! I do hope that the others will come out and make their introductions as well.

Here is my little “celebrity” story from the FIRST Project Runway season: I really have no idea how I started watching this show from the beginning, I was probably channel surfing and something caught my attention; probably Tim Gunn. ;-)

I was hooked right off the bat and I was really rooting for Wendy Pepper, and when she lost I went straight to the computer and Googled her. I found her website and emailed her instantly, telling her I thought she should have won and yadda, yadda, yadda. Well, not 15 minutes later the phone rings – it’s Wendy Pepper!!! She called me to thank me for the words of encouragement and support! That was way too cool and I lived off of that experience for a few days. Now only if I can get Tim Gunn to call me!! I love that man! “Make it work!”

So…did you watch the premiere last night? I sure did, and I was not let down. I was surprised, however, that they just got right down to business with their first challenge. For some reason I thought they would air an episode where the judges go through the interviewing process. I’m glad they didn’t.

Thus far, my top three picks are Carmen, Rami, and Chris; and calculations are only from their first designs from last night. I have read their bios but I am not making my picks, yet, from their bios; I need to see more of them from the show. Although, I do like the fact that Chris March is self taught.

The dress Chris March designed was absolutely stunning and the material he selected looked good enough to lick; I mean it was mesmerizing and I almost fainted when I saw that model strut her stuff down the runway in that stunning thread of a garment.

Anyway, that’s my run down of last night’s episode and my little introduction of myself.
